Shandong University held a hiking event at Kunyu Mountain in Yantai from May 10 to 11. Shandong University President Li Shucai attended the event.
More than 200 participants, including faculty and students from Shandong University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, University of Science and Technology of China, Renmin University of China, and Harbin Institute of Technology (Weihai), as well as staff from relevant departments and support teams took part in the event.
At the opening ceremony, President Li expressed his hope that young people should cultivate a deep sense of patriotism and broaden their horizons amid nature. He urged them to build resilience, strive for excellence through hiking, strengthen their bodies, and forge a spirit of perseverance in the face of challenges. He also encouraged students to take on concrete responsibilities and contribute to Chinese-style modernization.
During the hike, faculty and students joined a brief talk on the revolutionary history of Kunyu Mountain and recited selected texts on youth and personal growth. Working in teams, participants completed the 13.6-kilometer route together in about seven hours.
Kunyu Mountain, located in the eastern part of the Jiaodong Peninsula in Shandong Province, is renowned for its stunning natural scenery, cultural landmarks, and historic role as a revolutionary base.
