Shandong University emerged as a top performer at the first China Graduate Intelligent Construction Innovation Competition, securing seven first prizes in the national finals.
The university claimed a total of 17 awards, including six second prizes and four third prizes, showcasing its strength in nurturing talent in the field of smart construction.
This success followed a comprehensive preparation process in which 28 teams were trained and selected for practical competition experience.
The first-prize-winning projects demonstrated cutting-edge applications of digital technology in major infrastructure. From the School of Qilu Transportation, awarded entries included a tunnel structure safety diagnostic system, a rapid sensing system for tunnel ground stress, and an intelligent test platform for deep geothermal extraction.
Other honored innovations included a water disaster prevention system for underground projects, a smart support system for a world-record shield tunnel under the Yellow River, and a bridge defect identification tool powered by AI and 3D modeling.
A project from the School of Civil Engineering, focusing on advanced detection and intelligent decision-making for tunnel water inrush hazards, also earned top honors.
The diverse array of winning solutions highlights a significant push towards digitizing and securing critical national infrastructure.
