On Dec 26, Zhixin Bookstore, located at the south gate of Shandong University's central campus, officially opened its doors. More than just a retail space, the newly reconstructed bookstore is envisioned as a "warm, living cultural habitat" aimed at bridging the gap between profound scholarship and the public.
This marks a new chapter for Shandong University Press, an institution that has adhered to its mission for over 40 years since 1983. In 2024 alone, the Press published 610 titles, containing a staggering 150 million words. Its portfolio reflects a sophisticated balance between monumental historical documents and leading the way in cutting-edge academic monographs and interactive, multimedia popular science series.
The publisher's excellence is nationally recognized, boasting six consecutive years of top-tier social benefit evaluations and a spot among the Top 100 in Chinese Books for Overseas Library Collections for four consecutive terms.
The Press is also characterized by its remarkable efficiency and dedication. Earlier this year, the team undertook the mission to publish a 17-volume series in just three months — a task that typically takes 8 to 12 months for a single book to reach print standards. Through round-the-clock collaboration between editors and authors, the major project was delivered on schedule without compromising quality.
In the future, Zhixin Bookstore will serve as a campus landmark. Beyond its shelves, the space will integrate cultural and creative products, exhibitions, and study tours. By blending literature with interactive spaces, the bookstore aims to harmonize thought and emotion, ensuring that every book finds its kindred spirit while continuing to tell the enduring story of Shandong University.
