On March 18, Yi Fan, vice-president of Shandong University (SDU), welcomed a delegation led by Dolores O'Riordan, vice-president of University College Dublin (UCD), to the Jinan campus. The meeting emphasized a shared commitment to enhancing academic collaboration and fostering cross-cultural understanding between China and Ireland.
During the talks, Yi highlighted the complementary strengths of the two universities and expressed their shared ambition to set a benchmark for high-level innovation and interdisciplinary research. By focusing on cutting-edge frontiers, the partnership aims to offer diverse exchange platforms for youth, serving as a bridge between cultures.
O'Riordan echoed this view, noting that SDU's vision aligns perfectly with UCD's strategic development and educational philosophy. Both leaders are committed to using their elite disciplines to drive sustainable growth and educational advancements.
A significant highlight of the visit was the celebration of "UCD Day", where university leaders together witnessed the official launch of the SDU-UCD Seed Fund Program. The delegation also toured SDU's advanced public technical platforms and integrated student service centers.
The visit featured a China-Ireland joint cultural performance at the concert hall. SDU's faculty and students performed alongside the Irish troupe and band, delivering an immersive performance that combined Eastern and Western artistic traditions.
