A delegation from Shandong University (SDU), led by Executive Vice President Wu Zhen, visited Hungary and Serbia from June 22 to 28 to strengthen international partnerships in higher education, scientific research and industry-academia collaboration, while expanding the university's engagement across Central and Eastern Europe.
In Hungary, SDU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Óbuda University to promote cooperation incontrol engineering, new energy, intelligent engineering, and robotics, including the establishment of a joint laboratory for new energy and energy storage control.
At the University of Pécs, both sides agreed to expand talent cultivation and strengthen cooperation in medicine and other disciplines. A visit to the Szentágothai Research Centre further highlighted cooperation opportunities in reproductive and clinical medicine as well as joint research platforms.
The delegation attended the QS Higher Education Summit: Europe 2026, where they met with QS executives to discuss international student recruitment, global visibility, and international communications.
The delegation also held discussions with officials from the Chinese embassy in Hungary to deepen cooperationin education across Central and Eastern Europe.
In Serbia, the delegation visited the Chinese embassy in Serbia and met Ambassador Li Ming and Education Counselor Han Dianxiu to discuss university-enterprise cooperation and collaboration in emerging fields such as new energy.
SDU also signed an MoU with the University of Belgrade to strengthen cooperation in international Chinese education, key disciplines, and student exchanges.
To highlight the integration of industry and academia, the delegation visited the European branches of Shandong Hi-Speed Group and Linglong Tire.
The visit concluded with a symposium with local alumni, encouraging them to continue serving as bridges for educational and cultural exchange between China and Serbia.
