Shandong University (SDU) recently hosted a conference on social intelligence at its Weihai campus. The event gathered over 150 researchers, industry leaders, and students from 38 domestic and international institutions.
Social intelligence is an interdisciplinary field combining mathematics, artificial intelligence, computer science, automation, and the social sciences. It focuses on applying intelligent technologies and computational methods to decode complex social systems, thereby enhancing governance and decision-making.
Liu Jianya, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a chair professor at SDU, said rapid advances in large AI models are creating new opportunities for the field. He called for joint breakthroughs in foundational theories, core algorithms, and practical applications to bridge academic research with real-world social governance.
Chen Yao, vice-president of SDU's Weihai campus, emphasized SDU's commitment to advancing interdisciplinary research in intelligent governance and social computing. He expressed hope that the conference would foster cross-disciplinary and cross-institutional collaboration to drive the integration of large language models into social governance.
Presentations covered topics including large AI models for governance, theoretical frameworks in social computing, ethical issues in social intelligence, and industrial applications. The event also featured specialized sessions and a poster exhibition highlighting recent scientific breakthroughs, emerging technologies, and practical case studies.
The conference was hosted by a technical committee under the Chinese Association of Automation, with SDU's School of Mathematics and Statistics and Institute of Data Science serving as the primary organizers.
