Abstract:
In this talk, I discuss the basics of stability and bifurcation analysis in the context of soft electromechanical materials. This talk aims to use simple examples electrostatics of deformable media, to develop the ability to understand the pertinent literature that already exists and position them to embark on state-of-the-art research on this topic.
Bio:
Assistant Prof. Shengyou Yang is at present a postdoc working in Professor Pradeep Sharma’s group at the university of Houston. He obtained his doctoral degree (advised by Professor Yi-chao Chen) in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Houston in the USA. His research focuses on solid mechanics, soft and active dielectrics, the nonlinear filed theory of electro-elasticity, electromechanical instability, and energy harvesting. At the University of Houston, he has been fortunate to obtain a wide range of teaching and industry experiences. He was the instructor of MECE 3400 Introduction to Mechanics in Spring/2018, a teaching assistant from 2012 to 2015, and a mentor of a few graduate students in his postdoc group. He has authored or co-authored some 20 articles, and was awarded the Lewis Wheeler Scholarship (2014) and the Kalsi Scholarship (2014) for Ph.D students at the University of Houston.
