Bio:
Professor Einar Broch was former President of International Tunnelling Association. He obtained a M.Sc. in Engineering Rock Mechanics from Imperial College of Science and Technology, London in 1971 and a doctor’s degree in Engineering Geology from Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTNU) in 1977. At the latter university, he has worked as full professor from 1984 to 2008. He was also dean of Faculty of Applied Earth Sciences for 9 years since 1989. He was an elected member of the Norwegian Academy of Engineering in 1986, President of International Tunnelling Association (ITA) from 1986 to 1989, and a senior editor ofTunnelling and Underground Space Technology(TUST) from 1986 to 2011. He has been consultant for about 60 major hydropower and tunnelling projects in more than 30 countries. Those hydropower projects include six in China, namely Shisanling Reservoir, Xiaolangdi Dam, Baise, Jinkang, Mugecuo and Nuozhadu. Besides his remarkable experience in consultancy, he also was proficient in academic publications. He used to be the editor-in-chief of proceedings for six international symposia and had published more than 150 papers in some international journals and conferences.
