The English Summer Program plans to enroll about 200 SDU undergraduate students who are divided into small classes with about 20-25 in each. Participants will be selected to ensure they have proper language competence. The whole course includes several themes related to western cultures and social issues. Each teacher shall give 6 hours instruction (from 8:30 to 11:30 in the morning and 2:00-5:00 in the afternoon) every day. Each teacher can choose two topics for the instruction on their own first, and the topics should be reviewed by the program organizers. During the three weeks course, each teacher will teach 3 groups of students, one group for a week. They will cover the two topics in one week (one topic for 3 days). Instructions will be repeated in the three groups. As this is an intensive course, teachers are encouraged to involve students in their teaching activities actively and class interactions are stressed.
Assessment is given in two parts: (1) Oral presentation (50% of the total). Each participant is required to give an oral presentation at the end of the program based on the instruction. They can choose one topic given by the course. (2) Everyday performance including attendance (50% of the total).
