Abstract:
Prof. Abdel El Kharbachi works at Helmholtz Institute Ulm (HIU/KIT, Germany), acting in the field of light-weight metal based materials for energy storage and conversion. He graduated from the University of Liège and completed PhD in materials science and engineering from Grenoble Institute of Technology, France.
It was through this experience that he became interested in the potential of solid-state hydrogen storage for safe hydrogen operation using metal hydrides. He was a postdoctoral fellow in France at both the CEA-Saclay (for ITER Tokamak) and CNRS (Laboratoire de Réactivitéet Chimie des Solides), from which he gained research independence and extensive experience. From 2015 to 2018, he worked at IFE-Norway as a researcher and project leader establishing a Lab for battery-related activities. In late 2018, he joined KIT-Helmholtz Institute Ulm (HIU) working and supervising several projects. In parallel, he contributes to teaching activities at the University of Ulm. From 2019, he has served as Guest Editor of several special issues and collections, as well as referee/reviewer of several EU proposals and academic projects.
