Abstract:
Traditionally, presentism is thought to be appealing, to a large extent because it is thought to be more capable - than its rivals, most notably eternalism - of making sense of temporal passage/change; and to a large extent because it is thought to be wed well with endurantism, which for many is a natural position on persistence. These have been challenged lately: Leininger (2015) argues that presentism cannot make sense of temporal passage/change,and Tallant (2018) and Leininger (2022) argue that presentism is incompatible with endurantism, or perhaps even with any account of persistence. Too bad to be true, however. In this talk I will defend presentism against these charges.
