Speaker: Xiuli Chao is the Ralph L. Disney Professor of Industrial and Operations Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. His research interest includes queueing, scheduling, financial engineering, inventory control, supply chain management, and data-driven optimization. He is the co-author of two books, “Operations Scheduling with Applications in Manufacturing and Services” (Irwin/McGraw-Hill, 1998), and “Queueing Networks: Customers, Signals, and Product Form Solutions” (John Wiley & Sons, 1999), and is a co-developer of Lekin Scheduling System. Xiuli Chao received the 1998 Erlang Prize from the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Science (INFORMS), and the 2005 David F. Baker Distinguished Research Award from Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (IISE). He has been appointed as an area\associate editor or editorial board member for several important academic journals, including Management Science, Operations Research, and Manufacturing & Service Operations Management. He also received the 2014 Jon and Beverly Holt Award for Excellence in Teaching from the University of Michigan. He is a Fellow of both IISE and INFORMS. Xiuli Chao holds his bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Shandong University (1983), master’s degree in Operations Research from the Institute of Systems Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (1985), and doctoral degree in Operations Research from Columbia University (1989).
