A series of cultural exchange activities was held in Russia, France and Japan this month, with the support of the School of Foreign Languages and Literature of Shandong University (SDU), to promote traditional Chinese culture abroad.
On Feb 3, an activity titled "Taste of China: A Culinary Exploration " was held in Moscow, Russia, inviting Russian friends to join Chinese graduate students in making jiaozi and celebrating the Chinese New Year as well as to experience Chinese cuisine culture. Shandong University students introduced a series of traditional Chinese delicacies to local students, especially jiaozi or dumplings.
On Feb 10, an event titled "Taste of China: Savoring the Chinese New Year " was held in Rennes, France, inviting international students to celebrate the Chinese New Year together and experience traditional Chinese custom like red envelope giveaway games and Spring Festival greetings.
On Feb 17, a special event titled "Chinese Knots: Weaving Cultural Connections" was held in the cities of Fukuoka and Niigata in Japan, inviting local students and residents to learn how to weave Chinese knots.
The Chinese knot is a traditional handcraft that is not only decorative but a symbol of auspiciousness, happiness, longevity, and reunion. Shandong University team also launched academic discussions and promotional activities, helping foster a greater understanding of Chinese culture among foreign friends.
