Recently, Professor Zhou Gengyin from the School of Medicine at Shandong University, after being recommended by the Chinese American Pathologist Association (CAPA), was elected as a winner of the CAPA-Epitomics Distinguished Pathologist Award. Zhou is the very first pathologist of Mainland China awarded this prize.
This award aims to strengthen Sino-US cooperation in pathology and to reward the pathologist who has made great achievements in teaching, research, and diagnosis with important leadership and influence in Chinese academic pathology. It demonstrates that the academic team led by Professor Zhou has done an outstanding job in teaching and scientific research and their diagnosis level is widely recognized as well. This team has proved its certain international influence.
At the United States & Canadian Academy of Pathology Annual Meeting held on March 2nd in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, Professor Zhang Tingguo, on behalf of Professor Zhou, accepted this award and gave a keynote speech. Professor Zhang Tingguo displayed the history and current situation of Qilu Hospital and Medical School of Shandong University, presented a hopeful future of international and regional cooperation between China and America, and introduced the scientific achievements of their team and impressed the participants.
As a veteran Pathologist, Professor Zhou is the chief editor and chief translator of tens of pathological works and the eleventh Five-Year National-Level Planned Teaching Materials for high education by the Ministry of Education. He has undertaken several national and international research projects and had more than 160 articles published including 47 papers published in journals indexed by SCI. In 2012, Zhou was also invited to participate in editing the bookTargeting New Pathways and Cell Death in Breast Cancerby an American breast surgery professor. In addition, Professor Zhou is the second grade professor at the Medical school, the distinguished teacher of Shandong University, the academic leader of national key clinical specialty, and honored with Special government allowances of the State Council.
