Recently, Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China (ISTIC) corrected the 2011 Statistical Data of Chinese Science and Technology Papers. Shandong University had a total of 2134 documents indexed by SCIE, including 2073 papers, ranking seventh among Chinese universities.

Scientific data of papers indexed by SCIE of the top 7 universities were as follows: 4213 from Zhejiang University, 3519 from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, 3065 from Tsinghua University, 2764 from Peking University, 2445 from Sichuan University, 2404 from Fudan University and 2073 from Shandong University. The increasingly rising of SDU papers indexed and cited by SCIE in the past decade demonstrates the growing international clout of SDU.
