SDU students’ visit to Oxford University organized by the Department of International Affairs of SDU recently came to a successful close. This project was one of the measures aimed at enhancing international relationship and cooperation, and also improving students’ character and worldview quality in the process of becoming a world-class university.
21 students joined this visit which was led by Mr. Zhang Dongpeng from the Academic Research Department of SDU. During their visit, students chose courses such as European Law, International Commercial Law, Macro-economy, Economic Crisis and World Trade Organization, according to their majors and interests. In the classes themselves, students were deeply impressed by the teachers wit and humor in teaching, plentiful illustrations and examples, as well as the active interaction between teachers and students.
Besides students from Chinese institutions such as Shandong University, Peking University, Tsinghua University and Nankai University, students from other countries such as the U.S., Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Denmark and Norway also took part in this project. During the one month visit and study, students from different countries who had various majors discussed in groups and made presentations in class. They not only gained knowledge, but also understood different ways of thinking and learning.
Students also joined colorful out-of-class activities.They visited Cambridge University, the British Museum, and felt the atmosphere of the London Olympic Games. They visited places of interests such as Bath, Stonehenge, Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace, as well as professional organizations such as the International Sugar Organization and banks. They also experienced traditional rowing activity of Oxford University.
After one month’s study, all the students from Shandong University in this project passed the evaluation exam and received certificates issued by Oxford University. All the students realized that this visit to Britain had broadened their vision, improved their abilities in study, life and social interaction and gave them the chance to better understand different cultures, which will be helpful for their future studies and careers in the global marketplace.
