A meeting between students of Japanese Wakayama Medical University and Shandong University was held recently in the meeting room of the School of Nursing on Baotuquan Campus. The leader of the visiting Japanese group, Prof. Hiroaki Ikeda, students from the School of Nursing and Medical at Wakayama Medical University, and representatives of students from both the School of Nursing and the School of Medicine at Shandong University were in attendance.
The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere. At the meeting, they exchanged ideas and had a discussion mainly surrounding their study and personal life on campus.
The students from the Nursing School at Wakayama Medical University first introduced their curriculum and learning. Their professional courses included preliminary experience, nursing courses and group discussion. In the preliminary experience course, nursing students joined local medical institutions to become familiar with clinical settings and the responsibilities of nursing practitioners.
Nursing courses in Wakayama Medical University are quite similar to those in China, which included both theory and clinical practice. Group discussion was one characteristic of their studies, which enabled students to exchange ideas and broaden their professional views.
The leisure life of the students in Wakayama Medical University was also very colorful, which encompassed a variety of club activities and Campus Festival. During the Campus Opening Day in each July, every school and research institution would hosts the visiting middle school students and provides carefully prepared exhibitions and information. As nursing students, they expressed their love of nursing as a profession as well as a lifelong pursuit.
Shotaro Tabata, a medical student from Wakayama Medical University, briefly introduced their medical curriculum. Different from China, their medical education lasted for 6 years, which included 4 years of theory study and 2 years of clinical practice. Similar to their classmates in the school of nursing, they doctors in training enjoy a rich life.
Students from both the School of Nursing and School of Medicine at Shandong University also introduced their campus life. Students from the School of Medicine videotaped a day from the perspective of a medical undergraduate and students from the School of Nursing presented an introduction on the nursing curriculum and various spare time activities on campus.
The students also exchanged ideas on issues of mutual interest. Despite the language and cultural barriers, students communicated well on such topics as course development, career prospects, and their colorful campus life.
