Frankly speaking, I never thought that I could go aboard some day. But now, I made it. All of these do benefit from the international exchange programme of my university. In my opinion, this programme is quite significant, and we, the students in Shandong University, should make full use of it and enrich our life experience.
Although I just have stayed in Korea for only one semester, I have had too much of the harvest. This experience made me realize that our world is rich and colorful, and we do not know too much. Compared with Shandong University, Kyung Hee University has many differences in teaching and studying.
Speaking of teaching, Kyung Hee University emphasizes on English very much. No matter what courses they are, when it comes to English language, all the courses should be taught by Anglophone in the university. Although pronunciation is a big disadvantage for Korean people, but they have a large quantity of vocabulary and a good English sense. Meanwhile, there is another characteristic of teaching style that English teaching is necessary in graduate education. In short, I can feel the extensive attention to English of the whole country there. In addition, I appreciate personally one of its teaching styles very much, which I guess is not popular at all in China. That is the mechanism that students have the test every one or two weeks in each subject. When I studied in Korea, I was often fretted by the test. It made me tired and anxious, but I'm not regret about it. I like this supervised format, because it really can urge the students to learn something, and we can be excused to make the effort at the last moment while facing with the final exam.
As for studying, Korean students are also a little different from us. Sometimes I asked myself why I have a good impression in Kyung Hee University. I think one of reasons is that there are enough study lounges in the campus. There is no need to worry about seats when you want to study individually. You can have many choices. Korean students can not only study in the library or specialized study room, but also study over a coffee in the coffee shop. At the same time, electronic resources are quite abundant and free in the campus, when there is a need, you can easily use them. And in Kyung Hee University, presentation is a routine for the students, and all of the students are required often to present something about what they have studied. Because of the presentation, Korean students become more confident to speak in the public.
In Kyung Hee University, I not only learned Korean language, improved my English, but also met the friends from all over the world, and understood all kinds of cultures. I like this experience. I believe my semester in Korea turned out to be one of the most memorable periods in my life.
