The Young Volunteers Association of Shandong University changed its name to Shandong University's Young Volunteers Federation on December 5th in 2007. It aims to contribute and set an example in society, and adhere to the core principles of being voluntary, dedicatory, and friendly, and helping each other make progress. The Young Volunteers Federation is devoted to improving modern college students' sense of responsibility, and practice ability in social life. Now it has 450 students on staff and about 13,000 volunteer student members.
The Young Volunteers Federation has offices on all campuses of our school, as well as the branch school in Weihai, Shandong. The Organization consists of certain functional departments and the Young Volunteers Council. There is also an executive committee which consists of the chairman, the executive chairman and the executive secretary of every campus. The functional departments are divided into the Department of Voluntary Services, the Department of Comprehensive Coordination, the Department of Promotion, and the Department of Diplomacy and Public Relations. All the departments coordinate with each other and operate under the leadership of their respective ministers and vice ministers. Recruitment usually begins one month after the freshmen enrolment. The Young Volunteers Federation also holds school-wide contests like the ''Top 10 volunteers'', the ''Top 10 Volunteers' Organizations'', and other selected activities annually on the Volunteers' Day.
It is the Young Volunteers Federation's responsibility to supervise all volunteer services and activities. As such it is our goal to make sure that all those activities are carried out in an orderly and proper fashion, ensuring high quality training for our school's volunteers.
The main function of the Young Volunteers Federation is to coordinate all necessary resources in the process of providing volunteer service. In that spirit, we make tremendous efforts to guide and coordinate all the volunteer groups and create a cordial and sincere atmosphere of volunteer service.
