On the morning of March 27, the opening ceremony of the Ninth Foreign Culture Festival themed with “My Journey with Little Y” was held by the School of Foreign Languages and Literature in the grove on the central campus of SDU. Guests attending this opening ceremony were Mr. Zhang Yang, teacher from the Youth League Committee of SDU; Mrs. Wang Lulu, secretary of the Youth League Committee of the School of Foreign Languages and Literature and the counsellor of the 2015 freshmen; Mr. Liu Jinshuai, teacher from the School of Foreign Languages and Literature; and all student presidium members of all previous years.

The opening ceremony, presided over by Guan Qingchun and Yuan Xiaoli, began at 10 a.m. with “Crazy”, performed by a dance group named Sweet Poison, which livened up the atmosphere and won thunderous applause from the audience. Next was a medley of songs in diverse charming languages including Korean, German, Spanish, Russian, French, English and Japanese, a distinguished feature of the School of Foreign Languages and Literature. Pleasing and overwhelming, these songs brought the audience into a colorful and appealing world of foreign languages. Then came the fantastic magic show performed by Li Yunfei, member of the Magicians Association of SDU. It earned another round of applause and pushed the atmosphere to the climax. After that, Mr. Zhang Yang and Mrs. Wang Lulu announced the opening of the Foreign Culture Festival. Finally, the ceremony ended in the melodious singing of the campus opera “Gardenia in Blossom”, and audiences and performers took pictures together to mark this occasion. Nearby residents including children also watched the opening ceremony to appreciate the charm of exotic cultures. In addition, the drama club, Nero, gave a flashing performance outside the Qi Yuan at the very end. In the music of “Lion Heart” and “Who You”, members of Nero brought out their best and displayed youthful vigor through their energetic dancing.
The Foreign Culture Festival is a distinctive festival sponsored by the School of Foreign Languages and Literature and undertaken by the collegiate Youth League Committee and Students’ Union. It aimed at improving students’ foreign language competence, enhancing their ability of English languages, and enriching the students’ extracurricular life. Through these events, studentswereexpected to gain a better understanding of customs of different peoples of the world and to spread the splendid exotic culture.
