Shandong University (SDU) recently won the Best Organization Award during the 17th China National Model United Nations Conference.
Six SDU students participated in the conference, consisting of four students from the School of Foreign Languages and Literature, one student from the School of Translation Studies, and one student from the School of Northeast Asia Studies.
This year's conference was held online at five sub-venues, and was divided into four sessions with professional judges commenting in each session.
The six SDU students attended the conference at two different venues – the UN Climate Change Conference Venue and the UN Development Programme Venue.
Attendees discussed global issues, focusing on the potential for sustainable development in the post-pandemic era.
Representing France, Russia, Haiti, and Saudi Arabia at the model conference, SDU students talked about national interests, aiming at carrying out multilateral cooperation and building consensus.
Participation in foreign affairs requires not only proficiency in foreign languages, familiarity with the policies of represented countries, and understanding national conditions, but also a global perspective, knowledge of international rules, and good negotiation skills, said a judge.
