The School of Law of Shandong University won the third-place prize at the 10th China WTO Moot Court Competition, which was held online from Dec 11 to 19.
The SDU team, led by associate professor Xiang Li, spent two months preparing for the competition. They studied the provisions of the WTO agreement and a large number of related cases, completed nearly 20,000 words of English pleadings between the prosecutor and the respondent, and conducted more than 10 oral defense rehearsals and trial hearings.
The competition is the most significant of its kind to focus on WTO laws, with this year's competition focusing on pressing issues such as the composition of subsidies, specificity of subsidies, and judgment of related parties in the calculation of beneficiaries' benefits in the SCM Agreement, which are closely related to the resolution of WTO countervailing dispute.
This year's competition attracted 39 universities such as Peking University, China University of Political Science and Law, and Wuhan University.
The SDU's School of Law has taken part in competitions such as the China Moot Court Competition to cultivate high-level talent with a global perspective and knowledge of international rules.
