Recently, Shandong University's summer school, which lasted for a month, came to an end.
A total of 747 courses were offered at SDU's campuses in three cities – Jinan, Qingdao and Weihai, attracting 15,329 students to apply for courses, with a year-on-year increase of 25.4 percent.
Since 2004, SDU offers summer school courses to meet students' diverse study needs in order to cultivate all-around talents with comprehensive ability, practical ability and international perspective.
This year's summer school boasted SDU's advantages as a comprehensive research-oriented university, offering a variety of courses focusing on cutting edge academic frontiers in various disciplines. SDU also invited many overseas experts and scholars to give lectures in order to help students expand their international horizons.
For example, the School of Qilu Transportation opened the Solid Waste Recycling in Construction Materials and Circular Economy Associated with Carbon Neutrality courses, which allows students to learn about the development of innovative processing methods for solid waste and the methods for synthesizing and evaluating new green building products.
In order to cultivate more talents with international competitiveness, SDU's summer school has been offering courses taught by overseas teachers for four consecutive years.

For example, the International Finance and Finance Frontier course offered by the School of Management explores the application of derivatives and the securities market, as well as investment and financing practices of enterprises, which cultivates students' practical thinking and discussion abilities from both academic and practical perspectives.
This year's summer school also included courses that combine theory with practice.
For example, the Digital Marketing Practice Based on Tencent Advertising course offered by the School of Journalism and Communication required students to operate a programmed advertising system by themselves, complete advertising plans independently, optimize data analysis and practice customer service skills in order to gain experience through practical training.
SDU's summer school also includes courses with innovative themes, such as mental health courses about relationships and procrastination among college students, which are based on students' daily lives, and are helpful for students to form good habits.
