Brief Introduction of Shandong University Continuing Education

Shandong University enjoys a long history in continuing education as it is one of the earliest institutions engaged in adult higher education, network higher education and non-academic continuing education in China. In the past 60 years, the university has always regarded continuing education as an important part of personnel training to serve the society. In recent years, the School of Continuing Education, SDU, has carried out unremitting structural adjustment, transformation and upgrading. By actively developing academic as well as non-academic education, it has scored remarkable achievements in personnel training and social services.

Presently, the school has 83 network education majors and 35 adult education majors. As an institution in charge of higher education self-study examination of Shandong Province, it manages elf-study examinations in 27 majors. It has realized the basic coverage of continuing education network throughout the country with 77 online educational learning centers and 17 adult education correspondence stations located in 26 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions. It is education and training base approved by state ministries and commissions, such as Ministry of Education, Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Civil Affairs, China Food and Drug Administration, the State Administration of Work Safety, etc.. It has successively built 8 national continuing education bases including National Grass-roots Culture Training Base, National Teacher IT Training Base and National Social Worker Professional Training Base and so on.

Since 2000, a total of more than 300 thousand students graduated here, among whom more than 40 thousand received bachelor's degrees in adult education. More than 150 thousand personnel have been trained for government agencies, enterprises and institutions. Together with China Food and Drug Administration Licensed Pharmacist Certification Center, the school implemented the National Practice Pharmacists Ability and Education Promotion Program and has established 18 study centers in 16 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions with graduates totalled over 10 thousand. It has become an important base for the training of practicing pharmacists in China. The School established the “4-Orientation” continuing education personnel training and talent development mode, namely, oriented at serving industry development, business growth, regional construction as well as vocational education. By focusing on network education, the school continues to deepen the integration of continuing education and vocational education, highlight non-academic education of service industry, and actively promote the elderly education and community education. It has greatly contributed to regional economic restructuring, industrial transformation and upgrading and the construction of a harmonious society.

With the reform and development of higher continuing education, School of Continuing Education of SDU will focus on further clarifying the target positioning, rationalizing the school system, and improving and perfecting the governance mechanism. At a new historical starting point, it will comprehensively promote the implementation of continuous education to achieve quality development, connotative development, characteristic development and standard development. The school will strive to achieve the goal of “world first-class continuing education matching world-class university” and to establish an Internet ecological platform, a lifelong education service system with the advantages of resources and school running characteristics of SDU.
