On April 18, Famous American Philanthropist Kenneth Eugene Behring, Chairman of Global Health and Education Foundation (GHEF), and his group paid a visit to Shandong University. Xu Xianming, President of SDU, sat down for a talk with them. Lou Hongxiang, Vice President of SDU, attended the discussion.

President Xu gave Mr. Behring and his group a warm welcome and introduced SDU’s basic information to them. He told them that SDU is now establishing a new campus in Qingdao, and a museum of 30,000 square meters is planned to be built there, which will be the one of largest museums among the colleges and universities in China once completed.
Xu also mentioned SDU’s medical education which began in 1864. The Qilu Hospital of Shandong University has a health recovery center in the High-Tech Development Zone of Jinan. Now Qilu Hospital plans to establish another health recovery center close to SDU’s new campus in Qingdao. Xu expressed his hope that Mr. Behring would provide support to this plan.
Mr. Behring said he was pleased to see the development of SDU. He once established a retirement medical center in the U.S. and has given donations to several world-renown museums. Thus he was very interested in the establishment of the health recovery center.
During his visit, Mr. Behring also visited the SDU Museum and the health recovery center of Qilu Hospital. He listened to introductions from SDU Museum Curator Fang Hui and Vice Director of Qilu Hospital Gao Haiqing. The Director of SDU’s Department of International Affairs, Zou Nan, Director of SDU’s Department of Cooperation and Development, Wang Fei, Dean of SDU’s School of Nursing, Jia Jihui, and other officials also attended the meeting and other activities.
Kenneth Eugene Behring is the founder and chairman of the Behring Group. In the 1990s, he was listed among the Top 400 richest men by Fortune and Forbes on three occasions. In 2004, he was listed among the Top 50 philanthropists in the U.S. Mr. Behring established the World Wheelchair Foundation in 2000, which is devoted to improving the living standards of disadvantaged people all over the world and donating wheelchairs to all those in need. In 2005, he established the World Health and Education Foundation, which provides services to people in developing countries, mainly focusing on sectors including wheelchairs, cataract, safe water and education, and so on.
