On June 3rd, the International Conference on Philosophical Interpretation: East and West was held at SDU. Theconference was hosted by the SDU Philosophy and SocialPhilosophy at the State University of New York at Buffalo.
The conference was attended by dozens of scholars from universities and institutes including the University of Cambridge, Princeton University, University of Hawaii, University of Toronto, Nanyang Technological University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Tsinghua University, Fudan University, Wuhan University and others.
At the opening ceremony, Vice-President Chen Yan delivered a speech about SDU's current and future developments. Prof. Liu Jie, Dean of the School of Philosophy and Social Development, briefed the participants on the conference proceedings.
During the conference, Director of CASS Institute of Philosophy, Prof. Xie Dikun, expressed his wish to enhance Development School and co-organized by the Department of the cooperation between CASS and the SDU School of Philosophy and Social Development; Prof. Hong Handing stated that he believed this conference had provided a platform for both eastern and western philosophers to discuss hermeneutics; and last, Prof. Liu Dajun encouraged the harmonious interaction of Chinese and Western philosophy.
Several other speeches were made by representatives of the CASS Institute of Philosophy, Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, and SDU Centre for Zhouyi & Ancient Chinese Philosophy, respectively. Notably, Prof. Jorge Gracia, Head of the Department of Philosophy at the State University of New York at Buffalo, expressed his good wishes for the conference on behalf of the American guests.
The International Conference on Philosophical Interpretation: East and West was part of a series of activities organized to commemorate SDU's 110th anniversary.
