On November 25th, adelegationof three people led by Hiroto Hirakoba, the newly appointed Consul-General of Japan in Qingdao, visited Shandong University. They were met by Vice-President of SDU Wang Qilong.
Wang greeted the group and gave an introduction of Shandong University and its 110thAnniversary.In particular, he introduced SDU’seducational goals, and the plan to build a Shandong University System and construct Qingdao Campus. He hoped that the Consulate-General of Japan in Qingdao would continue to support the development of Shandong University, as well as play a positive role in the cooperation between Shandong University and Japanese universities.Hirakobawas very appreciative for the hospitality he received from Shandong University.Hesaidyear 2012 is not only the 40thyear since the normalization of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, but also the 30thyear since the establishment of a cooperative relationship between Shandong Province and the Yamaguchi Prefecture in Japan. He expected to take this opportunity to strengthen cooperation and promote Sino-Japanese cultural and academic exchanges. The two sides alsoexchangedideason students and scholars exchanges between Shandong University and universities in Japan.
After the talk, Hirakobapresented toWanga series of Japanese books whichJapanese Ambassador to China Uichiro Niwa personally donated to Shandong University. Prof. Wang Junju, Dean of School of Foreign Languages and Literature, participated in the talk and co-accepted the books.
