On January 13th, Shandong University held its 2012 Spring Reception, with over 100 people attending the party. They included Secretary of the Party Committee of SDU Li Shouxin, President of SDU Xu Xianming, officials of Shandong Provincial Government, representatives of alumni in Jinan, trustees of Shandong University board, directors of Research Institute of Shandong’s Development, cooperation partner of SDU, officials in charge of Jinan institutes of higher learning, Executive Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of SDU, Yin Wei, Li Jianjun and Fang Hongjian, both Deputy Secretaries of the Party Committee of SDU, Li Jianjun and Fang Hongjian, Vice-Presidents of SDU Fan Liming, Zhang Yongbing, Lou Hongxiang, Zhang Yun, Chen Yan, Han Shenghao and many other School and department heads.

Li Shouxin hosted the Spring Reception. He gave his new year wishes: “As the traditional Chinese festival, the Spring Festival is around the corner, we hold the Shandong University Spring Reception of 2012 with great delight, to express our thanks to all of you for the care and kindness you have given to Shandong University, to strengthen our exchanges and mutual understanding between all sectors of the community and Shandong University, to deepen our friendships, to hear your valuable advice and suggestions, to promote the strong and rapid development of SDU, to accelerate our pace to build SDU into a world class university and at the same time, to provide a golden opportunity for all of us to meet each other and celebrate the Spring Festival.”

Xu Xianming expressed in his speech that the purpose of this Spring Reception was to extend gratitude to friends from all walks of life. He briefly introduced the main work of SDU in 2011. Xu said, last year could be described as “a riot of colors” with Shandong University witnessing four significant events: successfully launching the celebration of the 110th anniversary of Shandong University, signing the agreement of jointly constructing SDU by Shandong Provincial Government and Ministry of Education, formulating the Climbing and Exceeding Development Plan orienting the next decade, and starting construction of the Qingdao Campus. Xu especially focused on the achievement of faculty construction of SDU in his introduction and shared this encouraging sentiment with all the distinguished guests.

Li Shouxin and Xu Xianming proposed a toast to the distinguished guests on behalf of all the faculty of SDU and expressed thanks and best wishes to them. Wang Suilian, Vice Governor of Shandong Province and an alumna of Shandong University, Yu Zeshui, a member of Shandong University Board of Trustees and also Director of Shandong Branch of China Development Bank and, Shang Zhixiao, the Secretary of Party Committee of Shandong Normal University delivered their speeches, expressing their feelings of delight and encouragement for knowing the remarkable achievements Shandong University has made. They also gave their best wishes to the construction of a world-class university of SDU and said they will spare no effort to support the development of Shandong University.

After the speeches were done, the guests had a chance to communicate with each other. Old friendships were renewed and new ones were formed. The excellent performance from the faculty and students of the Fine Arts School of Shandong University provided a musical backdrop to a festive and enthusiastic feast enjoyed by all.
