From February 11th to 12th, the selection test for volunteer Chinese language teachers to be sent to Thailand, the Philippines, Nepal and America was held at Shandong University. This is the first time for Hanban to establish test sites in Shandong Province.

The test contains three parts: comprehensive ability interview, English oral test, and psychological written test. The test is designed to gauge the applicants’ Chinese linguistic knowledge and skills, teaching ability, cross-cultural communication ability, Chinese culture, individual talent, foreign language, and psychological health, etc. A total of 174 students and teachers from over 10 colleges and universities as well as elementary and secondary schools participated in this selection test, and among them there were 47 humanities and social sciences students from Shandong University.

Hanban sent specialized personnel to direct and supervise the test work. The examination team was composed of 16 experts on English and teaching Chinese as foreign language, as well as volunteers with overseas experience. More than 30 students from Shandong University were involved in the preparation of the test.
Once Shandong University received notification that it was going to be a test site, College of International Education/Office of Confucius Institute made this task a high priority in order to guarantee the smooth and successful operation of the entire test process.
College of International Education/Office of Confucius Institute sent staff to gather experience from the other colleges and universities, and make a detailed plan to ensure the successful and orderly proceeding of the selection test. Through the cooperation of all organizers, the selection test was in fact a great success. This selection test won high praise from officials from Hanban, as well as examiners and students who were involved in the test.
