Date and Time: 2012-03-29 11:43:50

On Friday, March 23, Prof. Anders Zetterberg from Karolinska Institute, Swenden delivered a lecture entitled “High-Resolution Analysis of Gene Copy Number Changes in Breast Cancer” at the lecture hall of the School of Medicine.

In his lecture, Professor Zetterberg introduced the newly developed QM-FISH method for genomic profiling in his research group. This high-resolution analysis of gene copy number method reveals new insights into the prognosis and progression of breast cancer. With this unique method, several candidate genes of breast cancer have been found in his laboratory.

The lecture was hosted by Prof. Zhou Genyin from the Department of Pathology of the School of Medicine at Shandong University.

Prof. Anders Zetterberg has published over 170 scientific peer-reviewed papers and served as a member of the Nobel Committee for Physiology and Medicine from 2000 to 2002. He was also invited to give a presentation for the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine during the award ceremony in the concert hall of Stockholm on the 10th of December 2001. For over 40 years, Prof. Zetterberg has been conducting research in basic cancer biology including cell and molecular biological studies of cell cycle checkpoints and chromosome instability, as well as clinical diagnostic oncology.

This is Prof. Zetterberg’s fifth time to visit the School of Medicine at Shandong University. Prof. Zetterberg is also a Guest Professor of Shandong University and he co-supervised two PhD students with Prof. Zhou. Prof. Zetterberg’s research group has built a long-term friendly cooperation with the Department of Pathology at Shandong University.
