Delegation of Teachers and Students from Wakayama Medical University Visits

Recently, a 9-person delegation of teachers and students from Wakayama Medical University visited Shandong University and were met by Vice-president Fan Liming. The Dean of International Office of Shandong University Tong Guangwu also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Fan extended a warm welcome to the delegation from Wakayama Medical University. She made a brief introduction about the general profile of Shandong University to the visitors, also reviewed historic friendship founded between Wakayama Medical University and Shandong University. On the basis of the mutual close communication between the two sides, Fan expected the two universities to promote new exchange programs and development together.

Prof. Hiroaki Ikeda, the leader of the delegation from Wakayama Medical University, expressed his gratitude for the hospitality of Shandong University. He said the two universities founded their partnership 26 years ago, and during Shandong University's 110th anniversary, the two universities held academic symposiums on medicine and nursing, obtaining abundant academic achievements. “It is a good chance for students from Wakayama Medical University to experience learning processes at Shandong University during this visit,” said Prof. Hiroaki Ikeda. He also hoped the delegation can bring the learning experience back to Japan and share with their colleagues and fellow students.

During their stay, the delegation also visited the School of Medicine and the School of Nursing at Shandong University. Chen Xin, the Secretary of the Party Committee of School of Medicine, Lou Fenglan, the Dean of School of Nursing, and Yuan Kuichang, the Secretary of the Party Committee of School of Nursing, attended the activities.

Shandong University signed cooperation agreements with Wakayama Medical University in 1986, and in recent years the two universities have bilaterally enhanced their exchange and communication. In 2005, the two sides signed short-term students' exchange agreements to promote the mutual knowledge and learning of students majoring in Medicine and Nursing, as well as to cultivate budding talent.

The teachers and students who visited Shandong University were divided into two groups, the Medical Group and the Nursing Group. During the one week's stay, students from the two universities majoring in Medicine and Nursing participated in academic lectures, communication symposiums, party activities and many other cultural activities, and developed long-term friendships.
