Prof. Paul Sereno, a paleontologist from the University of Chicago and his parties visited Shandong University on May 19th. Xu Xianming, President of Shandong University, met with him and the pair exchanged views on the archaeological work jointly launched by both universities.
During the conversation, Xu expressed the hope that both sides could deepen the scientific cooperation in the fields of archaeology. He said, Prof. Sereno’s current visit is part of a preparation for the scientific film focusing on dinosaurs in which SDU will actively participate and fully support in order to put forward the construction of the museum of Qingdao Campus of SDU.
Prof. Sereno expressed thanks to SDU for its warm welcome and active participation and was full of confidence in regard to the cooperation between the two sides.
Shandong University signed cooperation agreement with the University of Chicago in 2011, under which both have launched fruitful cooperation in archaeology, political science, religious studies, medicine and so forth.
Prof. Sereno was hired by SDU as a lecture professor. As a top paleontology expert, Prof. Sereno’s research focuses lie in a wide range of sub-disciplines, such as dinosaurs, the origins of birds, paleoanthropology, and archaeology. He has achieved remarkable achievements discovering footprints in every continent, as well as finding many new dinosaur species and sites of prehistoric humans. Furthermore he has published over 20 papers in top level academic journals such as Science and Nature.
