On May 28th, Prof. Jacques Legrand, President of the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO) and his group visited Shandong University. Xu Xianming, President of Shandong University met with the group and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as well as Appendix to the MOU for Aesthetics & Culture Exchange and Cooperation between the two universities.
During their visit, Chen Yan, Vice President of Shandong University, also met with the delegation.

During the interview, Xu gave a detailed introduction to the history and current situation of Shandong University. He also stressed that Shandong University has been excelling in the literature, history and philosophy research continuously.
Xu noted that as one the most typical universities representing the traditional Chinese culture, SDU had an excellent cooperation base with INALCO. Xu expressed his hope that the two universities could develop a strong cooperation by combining both sides' achievements and powers of researches in a number of fields including Aesthetics and Confucianism in the future.
He also hoped that both sides could promote the establishment of new scientific research platform and the exchange as well as combining between both Chinese culture and French culture.
Prof. Legrand agreed with Xu and believed that there were many resemblances between SDU and INALCO. He expressed he would support the cooperation between the two universities in the future.

Prof. Wang Lunyue, Director of Chinese Language and Literature Department of INALCO, Tong Guangwu, Director of International Office of SDU, Professor Zeng Fanren, Director of the Center for Literary Theory and Aesthetics of SDU, Prof. Wang Xuedian, Executive Vice Dean of Advanced Institute for Confucian Studies of SDU, and Prof. Tan Haozhe, Executive Deputy Director of the Center for Literary Theory and Aesthetics of SDU, took part in the interview.
Later, participants held a working meeting. They discussed their future cooperation including the setting up of a research center together, joint training of doctoral students and a regular exchange of scholars.
During their stay, Prof. Legrand and his group also visited Shandong University Museum, Center for Research and Experience of Traditional Chinese Culture and the Center for Literary Theory and Aesthetics of SDU.
