On June 3rd, (in the afternoon of June 2nd US local time), Shandong University’s Recruitment and Recommendation for Overseas Talents was held in Houston, Texas, the United States. A delegation from Shandong University led by Xu Xianming, President of Shandong University, attended the event. Xu and Yan Guohua, Educational Counselor of the Chinese Consulate-General in Houston, both made speeches.
In his speech, Xu first thanked the strong support from the Chinese Consulate-General in Houston, the Shandong Fellowship Association and the Alumni Association of SDU. He then introduced the history and current situation of SDU in detail.
"One of the educational goals of SDU is to initially turn our university into a world-class university around 2020,” Xu said in his speech. “In order to achieve this goal, we are taking several major steps including talent strategy and international strategy.”
He also noted that holding the talent recruitment and recommendation fair in the U.S. was a reflection of these measures mentioned above.
"We hope that overseas alumni and students will join SDU in different ways, becoming part of the SDU community through studying and working at our university,” Xu added.
The meeting was chaired by Prof. Ma Xin, an alumnus of SDU, who is an assistant professor of Baylor College of Medicine and chairman of Overseas Alumni Association of SDU.
Lou Hongxiang, Vice President of SDU, introduced the position requirements and support conditions for prospective talents and answered questions.
Qu Yinbo, Dean of School of Life Science at SDU, introduced the demand for talents in key areas of life science, and Tong Guangwu, Director of International Office of SDU, introduced the short-term cooperation program for overseas scholars.
Kong Lingdong, Director of Development and Planning Department of SDU, and Fang Hui, Director of Personnel Department of SDU, both attended the event.
Representatives from the Shandong Fellowship Association, Asian American Business Council, Inc. (AABC) in Houston, Southern USA Alumni Association of SDU, Chinese Association of Professionals in Science and Technology, and Alumni Association of Peking University were invited to attend the meeting.
In addition, more than 100 experts, scholars and overseas students from Rice University, University of Texas, University of Houston, Baylor College of Medicine, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Methodist Hospital Research Institute of Cornell University and so forth, attended the meeting.
On May 30th, the Recruitment of Shandong University was held in New York, the United States. The results of recruitment were remarkable: more than ten people reached initial cooperation intentions with SDU.
Recruitment and recommendation for talents in the U.S. is the talent-hiring plan started by the Personnel Department and International Office at SDU in order to promote the construction of world-class university. It will be held irregularly in many places in the future.
