On the morning of July 1st, Leung Chun-ying, Honorary Doctor & the Honorary President of the Board of Regents of Shandong University, was sworn in as the fourth-term chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
In November 2011, Leung officially announced his candidacy for the post of the fourth-term chief executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), and won the elections on March 25th, 2012. On March 28th, China's State Council, or cabinet, appointed Leung as the new HKSAR chief executive.
Leung Chun-ying, whose ancestral home is Weihai, Shandong Province, was born in 1954 in Hong Kong. He graduated from Hong Kong Polytechnic with a higher diploma in building surveying in 1974, and later graduated from Bristol Polytechnic in the United Kingdom in 1977 after specializing in valuation and estate management.
Leung was appointed the Honorary President of the Second Board of Regents of Shandong University in October 2010. On October 15th 2011, he participated in the 110th Anniversary Celebration of SDU, and was conferred with an honorary doctoral degree during his stay.
