Recently, Daniel Delaveau, Mayor of Rennes, France and his delegation of 14 members visited SDU. The Executive Vice President of SDU Wang Qilong and the Vice President of SDU Lou Hongxiang met with the delegation.
During the meeting, Wang Qilong introduced the general situation of SDU in terms of the history, the scale of the school-running modes, the curriculum setting and construction of the SDU at Qingdao. He also reviewed the past cooperation and exchanges between SDU and some universities in Rennes, especially with INSA -Rennes, University of Rennes 1, University of Rennes 2 and other universities, in terms of training students jointly and scholar exchange. He hoped that the Rennes municipal government continues to support this cooperation and make further efforts to expand the field of education. Delaveau said that the Rennes municipal government would continue to support cooperation between the two sides in the field of education.
Before the meeting, both sides also held the 2012 Confucius Institute Board Meeting for the Confucius Institute in Brittany. As the Chinese Member, Wang Qilong spoke highly of what the Confucius Institute in Brittany had done in the past 4 years representing SDU. As the French Member, Roselyne Lefrancois, member of the Confucius Institute Board Meeting and the Vice Mayor of Rennes, said that the founding of the Confucius Institute has promoted international communication and cooperation between universities from China and France. She also said that the Confucius Institute is a potent symbol for local educational exchange between China and France.
Lou Hongxiang said that SDU placed an emphasis on the Confucius Institute’s functions of strengthening academic exchange and talent introductions. He hoped that this platform will promote cultural and educational exchange and cooperation between the universities from China and France. He said that SDU will continue to support the Confucius Institute in Bretagne and will try its best to make it to be a model Confucius institute globally. Blaise Thierree, the French Director of Bretagne Confucius Institute and Wang Liping, the Chinese Director of Bretagne Confucius Institute, made work statements during the Council Meeting.
Unveiled in October of 2008, Confucius Institute in Bretagne has always focused on “Cultural Confucius Institute”, and launched a series of cultural activities which were both colorful and influential. All these activities established the Confucius Institute’s position of Chinese teaching in Bretagne and nearby. The Confucius Institute has also become an important center to spread Chinese culture in western France.
