Vice President of the University of Chicago Kenneth Manotti Visits SDU

On November 5th, Xu Xianming, President of Shandong University, met with the Vice President of University of Chicago, Kenneth Manotti and the Associate Vice President Damon Cates, who came here to attend the Alumni Relations and Development Workshop.

Xu gave a brief review of the cooperation work between the two universities since they signed the intercollegiate cooperation agreement, and introduced the history of Shandong University. He pointed out the fact that the University of Chicago, as the birthplace of the Chicago School has over 80 Nobel Prize winners, and has developed into a world-class university within over a century. It is a worthy role model for SDU to emulate. This workshop, co-hosted by the two universities, is an important cooperative activity that set up a platform for SDU and other Chinese universities to learn fund raising experience from American universities.

Xu hopes that, through already existing cooperative efforts in the fields of politics and archeology, the two universities will be able to broaden and deepen cooperation in other areas such as economics, law, and so forth.

Manotti expressed his thanks for the warm welcome and the willingness of University of Chicago to exchange development experience with Shandong University. He said he learned much about the fund raising situations of Shandong University through this workshop. He believed the workshop is a mutual learning opportunity for both sides. He also expressed his wish that the two universities will cooperate in more areas and invited Xu to visit their university.

Fang Hui, Director of SDU Personnel Department, Kong Lingdong, Director of SDU Development Planning Department, Zou Nan, Director of International Affairs Department of SDU, Wang Fei, Director of SDU Cooperation and Development Department, and Tong Guangwu, General Consultant of International Communication of SDU, attended the meeting.

Manotti and delegation visited the university museum after the meeting.

Shandong University and the University of Chicago signed a memorandum on intercollegiate cooperation in 2011. Since then, they have developed close relations in archeology, politics, philosophy, medicine and other areas, and have had exchanges between teachers and students, cooperative research projects, and co-hosted conferences. On November 5th, 2012, the two universities co-hosted the Alumni Relations and Development Workshop.
