The 22nd International Historical Science Conference, the most influential academic activity on historical science, will be held in Jinan, the capital city of East China’s Shandong province in 2015.
It is the first time for the international conference to stage in an Asian country over the past 100 years. Held every five years, the conference has been held for 21 times since 1900 and enjoys a reputation of “Olympics of historians” because of its far-ranging influence.
The 22nd session is co-sponsored by International Committee of Historical Science (ICHS), Association of Chinese Historians, and Shandong University.
It is expected to attract thousands of participants from more than 100 countries and places, providing a stage to show the history and cultures of each country and an international coordination platform for historical research.
To warm up the event, a Symposium on Regional Culture and Qilu Civilization was held from Oct 22 to 24 in Shandong University. More than 100 historians from ICHS and China’s key universities attended the meeting and shared their opinions on regional civilization and cultural exchanges.
“Founded in 1926, ICHS has been a good platform for scholarly debates and a forum for new methods and approaches,” said Marjatta Hietala, president of the International Committee of History sciences, on the symposium.
“For years, the goal has also been brought the activities of CISH from solely European orientation toward a true global community of historians. It seems that we have almost reached this goal and will certainly reach in 2015 at the 22nd International Historical Science Conference,” she said.
