On August 29th, the closing ceremony of China Program Summer 2014 was held in the Run Run Shaw Scientific Building on central campus. Seventy students selected from more than 30 prestigious universities such as Cambridge University, Oxford University, Warwick University, Leeds University, Manchester University, Bristol University, University College London as well as seventy volunteers from Shandong University attended the closing ceremony.
In the closing ceremony, Ms. Phoebe Spurr from Manchester University expressed thanks to the teachers and volunteers for the great achievements so far and hoped that more students could take part in the project.
Professor Xiang Xinxiao from the School of Management also made a speech conveying her congratulations to the British students and her hope that they keep their passion for Chinese culture, and encouraged them to study at SDU in the future. Teachers from the College of International Education, British students, and volunteers also made speeches. At the end, the British students received certificates of completion.
Shandong University has undertaken this project since 2008, and has run for 6 years. The project was founded and supported by British government, which aims to enrich the experiences of students and improve the ability of students to study and live internationally.
China Program Summer 2014 is not only a program for British students to study Chinese culture, but also a precious chance for students from both countries to communicate and harvested pure friendship from the study. The British students studied Chinese, took courses in Chinese economics, and paid visited to enterprises and communities from August 10th to 28th. The volunteers of SDU and British students studied “one on one” from beginning to end. During the project, British students not only accepted Chinese Language training, but also paid a visit to enterprises and communities in Jinan and visited Chinese families.
