An event themed "International Symposium on China's Higher Education in a Global Perspective & 150th Anniversary of Tengchou College", organized by Shandong University and Harvard-Yenching Institute, is being held in Shandong University, from Oct 11-15.

Fifty professionals and scholars from globally renowned universities, such as Harvard University, Meiji Gakuin University, Fudan University, and Nankai University, are participating in the symposium to discuss the origin of China's modern higher education and Tengchou College's past and present.

Scholars put forward a new argument that China's Christian Colleges were experiments in higher education from a global perspective, while discussing the development of Christian Colleges and modern higher education in China and other Asian countries.

Zhang Rong, president of Shandong University, said that Tengchou College, a Christian College rated as China's first modern college, had been spreading Chinese traditional culture to the world since it was established.

Harvard-Yenching Institute is an independent foundation, located on the campus of Harvard University, that supports doctoral scholarships, visiting fellowships, academic publications, advanced training programs, conferences and other scholarly initiatives in Asia, at Harvard University, and elsewhere.
