On December 2nd, Shandong University President Zhang Rong and his delegation, invited by Zhang Xiuqin, Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of Permanent Delegation of the People's Republic of China to UNESCO, paid a visit to the headquarters of UNESCO in Paris. SDU Vice President Chen Yan also attended the visit.
Zhang Rong expressed his respect for the contribution UNESCO has made in promoting exchanges and mutual learning among different civilizations, and introduced the positive achievements of SDU in carrying out international exchange and cooperation, as well as A Project on Global Collection and Compilation of Chinese Ancient Books. He hopes for more exchange in the field of humanities with UNESCO to broaden students' international vision, enhance students’ sense of mission in spreading Chinese culture, and help students' innovative undertaking development.
Zhang Xiuqin welcomed the visit of Zhang Rong and his delegation and whole-heartedly affirmed SDU’s contribution in the history of the development of higher education in China. She recounted the UNESCO’s history, organization structure, and its important role in the spread of Chinese culture. She also stated that A Project on Global Collection and Compilation of Chinese Ancient Books happens to share the same view with UNESCO’s mission, and encouraged SDU’s scholars combined with global experts to accomplish this project. She noted that the UNESCO would establish an international culture platform with SDU to welcome its students.
Officials of SDU’s Department of International Affairs, School of History and Culture, and the Institute of Chinese Classics Studies attended the visit.
