On February 12, invited by The University of York, President of Shandong University Zhang Rong visited the university and had a talk with its Vice-Chancellor, Koen Lamberts, for promoting the cooperation between the two universities. Pro-Vice-Chancellor of The University of York, John Robinson, also attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Zhang Rong gave an introduction about SDU’s history and future development, especially emphasizing its achievements in literature and history and advantages in the fields of science, engineering and medicine.
Given the two schools’ cooperation in the fields of spintronics and semiconductor, Zhang suggested that the both sides promote the overall cooperation and progress in these fields between the two nations and even the world.
The University of York and Shandong University are both high-level research universities in their own countries. Lamberts expressed his hope that the University of York can establish a closer relationship with Shandong University, and that York is willing to work with both countries’ universities to organize international team or research alliance in the field of spintronics, and push Europe and China in this field of close cooperation.
Both sides also agreed to promote short-term and long-term study abroad programs for students, student exchange programs and academic collaborations in the fields of physics, social health, microorganism, and archaeology.
Officials and representatives from The University of York as well as officials from International Affairs Department of Shandong University also attended the meeting.
