On March 25, a delegation of the University of Chicago visited Shandong University. Zhang Rong, President of SDU, met with Robert J. Zimmer, President of the University of Chicago, and Michael Kulma, Associate Vice President for Global Initiatives of the University of Chicago.
At the meeting, Zhang Rong introduced SDU’s history, subject setting, scale of education and Qingdao campus’s plans, as well as reviewing cooperative achievements between the two universities in the fields of archaeology, politics, Judaism studies, and law. He expressed his hope that both sides would continue to cooperate in the areas of marine science, Sino-US Technology Innovation Park, Global Consortium for Chinese Studies, and public policy.
Zimmer highly praised the universities’ cooperative achievements and hoped that the two universities would seize the opportunity of the construction of the Qingdao campus to expand cooperation in related fields, and develop exchanges in the fields of marine science, innovative business, public policy, and Chinese studies.
Members from The University of Chicago Center in Beijing, as well as SDU’s Cooperation and Planning Department, and the International Affairs Department, attended the meeting.
Shandong University and the University of Chicago signed a memorandum of understanding in 2011, and both sides have set up cooperative relationships in the fields of archaeology, inter-religious studies, politics, law and economics.
