On April 16, Ian Young, Vice-Chancellor of Australian National University (ANU), and his delegation visited Shandong University. Zhang Rong, President of SDU, met with the guests.

During the meeting, Zhang reviewed SDU’s development history, and highlighted areas of excellence of SDU relating to disciplines, talent cultivation, organizational structure, and cultural resources.

He acknowledged the many fruitful efforts between Shandong University (Weihai) and ANU in Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run schools projects. He expressed his hope that both sides would make joint efforts towards subjects systematization and institutionalization, and set up the relevant cooperatively-run schools projects as quickly as possible, to expand the existing cooperation to other areas as well as deepen cooperation, raise standards and increase the scale.

Young said that ANU has always attached great importance to development and cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region, especially to in-depth cooperation with Chinese colleges and universities.

He expressed his appreciation for the cooperative achievements between the two universities and was optimistic about setting up a cooperative educational institution in running schools.

He further stated that, ANU was looking forward to building a more in-depth cooperative partnership with SDU and promoting exchanges in more fields of study.

The delegation visited the Chinese Culture Experience Hall at SDU after the meeting. Erik Lithander, Pro Vice-Chancellor (International & Outreach) of ANU, and Jonathan Dampney, Student Recruitment Manager of ANU College of Physical & Mathematical Science, as well as Li Xinqing, CEO of the Australia Education Management Group (AEMG), and Chen Fangzhu, Chief Executive Officer of AEMG, attended the visit. Representatives from Shandong University (Weihai) and International Affairs Department of SDU also participated in the relevant activities.
