On May 20, Matan Vilnai, Israeli Ambassador to China, and Asher Cohen, Vice President of Hebrew University of Jerusalem, led a delegation to visit Shandong University. Zhang Rong, President of SDU, awarded Matan Vilnai and Asher Cohen the title of Consulting Professors of SDU, as well as signed an Agreement of Cooperation with Hebrew University of Jerusalem to develop comprehensive cooperation in the fields of researcher exchange and academic research. Wang Qilong, Executive Vice President of SDU, and Chen Zijiang, Vice President of SDU, attended the related activities.
During the meeting, Zhang Rong reviewed the history of communication and exchange between the two universities and indicated that both sides have constantly explored many subjects in the fields selected for cooperation, some of which have already come to fruition practically.
He also remarked that the cooperation of both sides in the fields of academic research, technology achievements transformation, as well as innovation and entrepreneurship, will promote the construction of SDU’s Qingdao Campus and the economic and social development of Shandong Province.
Matan Vilnai said that to promote the exchange and cooperation of colleges and universities between China and Israel is an important responsibility of the Israeli Embassy in China. Hebrew University is the oldest university in Israel, with broad academic capacities, and cooperation between it and SDU are an extremely high priority.
He noted that, as Israel has the leading agricultural technology in the world and Shandong Province is China’s major agricultural province, both sides in agriculture and other fields have broad cooperative prospects.
Asher Cohen stated that Hebrew University’s companies for transformation of technical achievements are leading the world, and he hoped the two universities will develop full cooperation in the fields of agriculture and transformation of technical achievements, and gradually lead to other areas of exchange and communication.
At the Consulting Professor award ceremony, Zhang expressed that, Ambassador Matan Vilnai’s joining this big family of SDU is a joyous occasion, and hoped he will continue to support the cooperation between SDU and Israeli colleges and universities as well as show concern for the development of SDU.
Matan Vilnai offered thanks for the honor of being awarded the title of Consulting Professor and expressed the intention that he will spare no effort to support the development of SDU.
During the delegation’s stay, they also exchanged ideas with SDU scholars on cooperation in the fields of archaeology, computers, agriculture, social work, and platform construction of technical transformation.
