From June 21 to 22, the China-U.S. University President Roundtable was held at Rice University in Houston, U.S.A. More than 50 presidents and chancellors from major Chinese and U.S. universities discussed such ideas as global education, research collaboration and cultural exchange. Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong attended the Round Table and gave the keynote address. Chinese Education Minister Yuan Guiren and SDU University President Zhang Rong also delivered a speech at the Round Table.

"The current problem is how the energy from new sources can be converted and transmitted in highly efficient ways and combined with social and economic development; moreover, SDU and State Grid Corporation of China plan to build a collaborative innovation center for Internet of Global Energy, to improve the cooperation in different areas and world peace, as well as the further cooperation in this field with U.S. universities,” Zhang remarked in his speech at the Round Table.

During the roundtable, Zhang also attended activities held by the Chinese Consulate General in Houston, Rice University and Houston Shandong University Alumni Association, and introduced the ideas of SDU about integration of medical resources and building an advanced medical center.

He also expressed his hope that alumni will continue to support and concern about the development of SDU, and to contribute to their Alma Mater.
