On June 27, Shandong University held its 2015 Graduate Student Commencement Ceremony to award graduate degrees at the gymnasium of Centre Campus. Attending the ceremony were 515,1 graduate students.
Li Shouxin, Chairman of SDU Council, and Zhang Rong, President of SDU, presented degrees and certificates to the new graduates and presented awards to the outstanding students.
SDU Alumnus Xue Yusheng, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, SDU’s professor Qian Yitai, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Prof, Yuan Shishuo, Tenured Professor at SDU, Prof, An Tifu, First Grade Professor in Humanities and Social Sciences at SDU as well as university leaders including Chen Xiangyang, Zhang Rongbing, Chen Yan, Fang Hongjian and Jialei attended the ceremony.

"Graduate students have always been an important force in the scientific research of SDU, and SDU’s strong momentum in development of disciplines and scientific research relies on the creative work by graduate students,” Zhang remarked in his speech, “in the days of studying and researching at SDU, we have grown up together with SDU, have participated in and witnessed vigorous development with each passing day.
He also eagerly anticipated the graduates grasping the pulse of the times, aiming far at great works, and simultaneously realizing the country’s needs, society’s hopes, and life’s values.

On behalf of alumni of SDU, Prof. Xue congratulated all of the graduates and thanked all of teachers. He shared his life experiences as well as how to stick to one’s dreams and enjoy the process of fighting for them.
"Talent and environment aren't everything, interest and faith are more important,” Prof. Xue told the graduates. He also encouraged them to stick to their dreams and take hold of the direction of their lives. From the perspective of an old alumnus, he suggested the graduates keep an open mind and make unremitting efforts, appreciate the process of fighting for their dreams, and do the thing that one likes oneself in a happy mental state.

As an old teacher who has been engaged in graduate teaching over 20 years, Teacher Representative Huang Bobiao, professor from SDU Research Institute of Crystal Materials, shared his feeling and thoughts towards aspects of student-teacher relations, students' academic and personality cultivation, as well as scientific research.
He also expressed his hope that the graduates will continue to get good grades in their career, and become useful people for society and country.
On behalf of all of graduates, Graduate Representative Ge Yuyu, doctoral student from the School of Economics, expressed thanks and blessings to their Alma Mater, teachers, alumni and parents.
“All of setbacks and frustrations we suffered, all the difficulties and obstacles we conquered, all the achievements and honors we got, can be regarded as a form of growth, which stemmed from the good cultural gene and character given by our Alma Mater,” Ge said in his speech.
At the ceremony, Zhang Yongbing, Vice President of SDU read the decision of recognition of outstanding graduates. Chen Yan, Vice President of SDU, read the decision to award degrees to the graduates. All deans of schools of SDU commented respectively to express their best wishes to the graduates.
Prior to the ceremony, all attendees enjoyed a wonderful performance by students of the School of Fine Arts and watched a moving video specifically created for the graduates.
