Hu Shi:The first Chinese to attend the International Congress of Historical Sciences
1938, China was painfully locked in the flames of war, and the nation seemed to be on the verge of collapse. Trapped in the perilous external and conditions, China nevertheless made her contribution to the communication between Chinese and Western Historiography.
The year 1938 was also the last days of peace for European people; the notorious WWII with all its slaughter was due. In August, the 8th International Congress of Historical Sciences was held in Zurich, Switzerland at which 900 representatives from more than 40 nations attended and among them Hu Shi representing China.
This may not be counted as a major event in the history of politics, but it means a great deal for the Introduction of Chinese Historiography to the world in that the enchanting Chinese history started to get global attention from that point on.
