The 22nd ICHS, scheduled to open in Jinan between August 23rd and 29th, is the first time for the 115-year-old ICHS to be held in an Asian country since its establishment. Upholding the purport of “History: The Shared Past and a Common Future”, about 150 sessions of various events of 4 seminars, 27 symposiums and 18 joint discussions will be held during this congress. The congress will conduct the discussion on four themes after the inauguration on August 23th.
According to Zhang Haipeng, chairman of the Association of Chinese Historians, after 5 years of preparation, the 22nd ICHS is proceeding in an orderly way when it has entered the 100-day countdown of the congress. Gaining full support of the People's Government of Shandong Province, Ministry of Education and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Shandong University has been making endeavors with meticulous attention for the preparatory work. The 22nd ICHS is the first to be conducted in China and in Asia, which vests with significance to the host city and country. Holding the 22nd ICHS has fostered a breakthrough to the situation in which the research system and structure had been monopolized by Europe for hundreds of years. It is conductive to highlight the prominent role of China in history progress and world affairs as well as deepening the understanding of the historical role and significance of China in globalization for historians from all over the world. From this point of view, it is a turning point in the academic movement of history.
