Conference of the Committee of Teaching Guidance on History (hereinafter referred to as CTGH) under the Ministry of Education and Chairmen of History Departments in China was held in Shandong Hotel, on August 23, 2015, undertaken by School of History and Culture of Shandong University and the Organizing Committee of Shandong University for ICHS2015. The managing vice president of Shandong University, professor Wang Qilong and the deputy director of the Department of Higher Education of Ministry of Education Liu Guiqin took part in the annual meeting and delivered speeches successively. The director of CTGH, professor Ma Min acted as the compere.

Professor Wang Qilong delivered a speech on the meeting. He firstly congratulated the holding of the Committee of Teaching Guidance on History, and welcomed the coming of the members. In Prof. Wang’s speech, he introduced the long history and running characteristics of Shandong University. He pointed out that during the long period of school running, the subject feature has been formed and the subjects of art have developed well in the recent years. The education of history and common sense faced with undergraduates is an important way through which the students could catch the historic knowledge and improved their humanistic quality. Therefore, it would be necessary to discuss how to encourage the history education to conform to the times. It would be a good opportunity that this meeting happened to be followed the ICHS2015. The meeting scholars could exchange their opinions with the experts from home and aboard and crash out more precious sparkles.

In the speech, Liu Guiqin mentioned that the Committee of Teaching Guidance on History has carried out lots of fruitful work. Based on the institutionalization and standardization of the annual meeting of the Committee of Teaching Guidance on History, the committee convened the joint conference of chairmen of History Departments in China and put the advice into the exploration and practice of college teaching. At the same time, the confirming of the national standards for the qualilty of the undergraduate teaching of history has made important periodical progress. For the upcoming joint conference of chairmen of History Departments, Liu Guiqin put forward four topics about promoting the education and teaching of history major further: strengthening the education and teaching of historical materialism, promoting the reform of teaching methods on history, improving the teaching abilities of teachers and opening popular history elective courses for students in other majors. He also offered his own proposals for these topics.

Chen Chunsheng, the vice director of the Committee makes some explanations for the amendment of the 《National standards for the quality of the undergraduate teaching of history》(simplified as“ the National standards”).It includes three aspects. First, to unify the system of “the National standards”, and also make the formal explanations for the proper noun which appeared in it; second, to consider different universities’ features and make balance among them, and to dilute the hard rules of the target; third, to make the appropriate expression for the innovation and entrepreneurship, etc. And then, the Committee members have a heated discussion and achieve basic success on the amendment.

In the end, the participating members had a discussion about the upcoming Joint Conference of Chairmen of History Departments in China.

There are over 40 members attended the annual meeting of the Committee of Teaching Guidance on History under the Ministry of Education. And the Joint Conference of Chairmen of History Departments in China will be held after this.
